Avobar: Creating A Destinational Dining Experience

Avobar has just been nominated for a FAB Award in the Creative Interior Design category. We explore Design LSM's vision behind London’s first all-avocado dining concept.

Creating a destinational dining experience with Insta-worthy appeal

The 740 sqft restaurant accommodates 70 covers across two floors combining an open and social dining environment with an in-house retail space offering avocado-based skincare and lifestyle products to customers. A destination restaurant is designed to leave a lasting impression on anyone who visits it. While an avocado focused restaurant is an exciting concept, there is the danger it could lose its attraction over time as the newness of the idea fades, which is why the interiors were crucial to providing long-term appeal and guaranteeing customer retention.

The brief

The brief was to create a ‘must-visit’ destination for health-focused millennials. To achieve this, Design LSM wanted to evoke a relaxed bohemian ambience through a beautifully crafted design. This would in turn create a visual feast for Avobar’s customers and  perfectly complement the brand’s wellness offering.

The design

DesignLSM infused Avobar with the laid-back modern aesthetic of California cool by applying a relaxed and neutral palette. This includes distressed white timber, abundant hanging foliage and with a range of printed and woven textiles. Pockets of communal and intimate seating feature throughout the eatery, these spaces are highlighted by brass table tops and oversized rattan pendant lighting. Elsewhere warm reclaimed timbers, hammered copper and terrazzo finishes combine to create a laid back environment.

Evoking the brand & the humble avocado

Avobar’s offering obviously focuses on the delicious properties of the humble avocado. To incorporated this theme into the design there is a striking living plant wall, pastel-coloured tiles and stunning botanical backdrops, which have been designed to induce natural warmth as well as communicate the distinctive persona of the brand. The central service counter is entirely clad in avocado-hued handmade tiles, as is a prominent feature wall. Elsewhere fresh produce is framed by a rustic, draped gantry formed from peeled timber branches.

How does the furniture add to this aesthetic?

Bentwood chairs in honey-rich stains, rattan chairs & stools with brightly striped woven upholstery pair with scaffold board table tops and clean white bases. This is sun-soaked, sand-swept California cool at its best. Furniture that makes you think, chilled times, healthy vibes & a great quality of life.
