Are you confused about whether VAT will be charged on your furniture purchase? If so, you’re not alone. In this article, we will explain when you will be able to trade with us VAT-free and when not. Here are some typical scenarios:
Scenario 1: We deliver your order to a UK address
20% VAT will be charged.
Scenario 2: You arrange for your order to be collected from our UK warehouse
20% VAT will be charged.
Scenario 3: You arrange for your order to be collected from our UK warehouse but intend to send the goods abroad.
20% VAT will be charged, but it can be refunded when we are provided with a Proof of Delivery of the goods at a foreign address.
Scenario 4: We deliver your order to a foreign (ie non-UK) address
Your invoice will be zero rated – you will not have to pay VAT to us.
Special Scenario: Delivery from one of our EU factories directly to an address in another EU country.
Our default process is to consolidate orders in our UK warehouse, then deliver anywhere in the world. But in certain situations (not least if time is short), we might need to arrange a delivery directly from one of our EU factories to an address in another EU country.
In such a case, the goods do not leave the EU, but still cross country borders, therefore VAT can be zero rated – subject to the following conditions:
- We must be provided with your VAT number in the destination country.
- We must have confirmation that you have a VAT number in the destination country before we confirm the final quotation for the order.
If you do not have a VAT number in the destination country, we will have to divert your order to our UK warehouse and then to the delivery address, so passing the goods through the UK. This will add to the cost of the delivery.
